On October 10th, six European associations filed an action before the European Court of Justice requesting annulment of a regulation abolishing any GMO risk assessment for Covid-19 vaccines.
Regulation 2020/1043, adopted this summer by the Union, waives the requirement for manufacturers of Covid-19 vaccines and treatments containing GMOs to submit an environmental impact and biosafety study before starting clinical trials. The text, published on July 17, was adopted by the European Parliament under an emergency procedure, without amendments or debate. This exception to European GMO legislation infringes the precautionary principle laid down in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
These GM Covid-19 vaccines for which clinical trials have already begun, present very real risks. A report by molecular geneticist Cristian Velot of Criigen, points out that they could lead to viral recombination potentially more serious than the viruses targeted by the vaccine, impacting both animal life and human health. The risks of interaction with human DNA or the introduction of new genetic technologies may have unknown, potentially serious and irreversible consequences. In other words, no specific measures will be applied to control the risk of genetic modification of living beings.
The six applicant associations – CNSME, Terra SOS Tenible, LNPLV, EFVV, AIMSIB, Children’s Health Defense Europe – denounce this experimentation as dangerous for the participants in the clinical trials and for both the human race and the environment; they demand the immediate application of the precautionary principle, in compliance with the rules of law.
“I was given the opportunity to organise an innovative experiment on personalised vaccination under the aegis of the Ile-de-France Regional Council. In so doing, I discovered highly toxic molecules and pesticides in the vaccines. It therefore seems essential to me that the implementation of any new vaccine against Covid be exemplary and that in particular, all the critical steps be respected” explains Dr Dominique Eraud, Chair of the Coordination Nationale Médicale Santé Environnement (CNMSE).
“Implementation of this regulation must be stopped immediately. EU Regulation 2020/1043 is fundamentally a regulation against life, reason, law, justice and science, since even the Commission, after bypassing all democratic controls, did not have the moral decency to ask for a scientific opinion,” says Josefina Fraile, Chair of Terra SoS Tenible.
“By publishing this regulation, the European institutions are giving European Union member states the right to put in place dangerous, even biocidal, legislative measures that should be denounced,” emphasizes Jean-Pierre Eudier, Chair of the Ligue Nationale pour la Liberté des Vaccinations (LNPLV).
Dr. Kris Gaublomme, Chair of the European Forum for Vaccine Vigilance (EFFV), states: “We denounce the gradual movement of European countries towards authoritarianism, control and restriction of fundamental rights, through systematic deviations from the rules of law under the pretext of the Covid-19 epidemic, particularly clear in the case of regulation EU2020/1043. The aim of our appeal to the EU Court of Justice is to ensure compliance with the rules of law. »
“The European authority is offering a blank cheque to the pharmaceutical industry to bring to market new GM drug and vaccine technologies for which not all the safety studies will have been carried out. In such circumstances, it is the patients who become guinea pigs and as doctors, we refuse this state of affairs” insists Philippe Harvaux, Association Internationale pour une Médecine Scientifique Indépendante et Bienveillante (AIMSIB).
Lastly, according to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. chair of Children’s Health Defense Europe :
“The need to consider different types of risk before initiating clinical trials of vaccines that will be fast-tracked and widely distributed cannot be underestimated. Vaccines using genetically modified organisms can have an impact on the environment. Other vaccines considered for Covid-19 such as the mRNA vaccines use nanoparticles to introduce genetic material into our cells and program their response. Unlike the vaccines we know, this mechanism is a form of ‘hacking’ of our genetic functioning. It is a completely new experimental technology, of which we know very little. Many people have already experienced serious side effects in clinical trials with the Covid vaccines in development. Allowing and continuing such experiments without any evaluation and debate about the long-term risk they pose on our health or about their ethical aspects is irresponsible and unconscious. Urgency should not lead to blind decisions. Our political leaders have a duty to ensure that the precautionary principle is respected, or we will all be in danger.”
